And anytime you feel the pain, hey Jude, refrain... Don't carry the world upon your shoulders.

» Happy Ada Lovelace Day!
Today honors Ada Lovelace, one of the first women in technology. As I'm also a woman in a technology-related field (the web), I felt like participating.

Sign my pledge at PledgeBank

Oh, let's see... women in technology I admire... there's [info]kethry, my friend Sher from my last job, and my current coworker Skye. For starters. :)

So maybe the day will come
When you'll never have to feel no pain
After all my complaining

I can't remember the last time I bought new music. I just downloaded some stuff from iTunes: Modest Mouse, Franz Ferdinand, Death Cab, Ray LaMontagne, Kings of Leon and Beck.

Now I'm only about a year behind everyone else. :D

Also, Steve and I (and, apparently, several of my coworkers) are planning to try to see Cracker at a pub just down the road a ways from my house but I can't commit to buying tickets just yet... not until I have a babysitter in place.

Me [showing Cole a video on how to make a constellation night light]: "Hey, we'll have to make you one of these that shows Gemini!"

Cole: "No, Mama, it's Gem and me."

Also, I overheard the 7-year-old next door and her friend talking about eyeliner and mascara this afternoon. I don't think I was interested in makeup until at least 10 or so. O_o

You Are Coffee

You are highly ambitious and goal oriented. You feel like there isn't enough time in your day to get it all done.

You are outgoing and creative. You love talking with people, thinking up crazy plans, and then acting immediately on them.

When it comes to caffeine, you'd like a refill. You can almost always use an energy boost.

Life is too short. You're going to get as much out of it as you can. You live for today.

Oh, sure, of course the members of Death Cab for Cutie would know one of the lifeguards at my old job and would email me about it. Riiiiiiight.

God, it feels good to get some sleep.

Happy Valentine's Day/Presidents Day Weekend, all!

You Were a Creative Kid

When you were a kid, you always had to be doing something with your hands.

Whether you were painting a picture or just doodling, you had to be creating something.

You were too busy thinking about your future creations to listen in school.

It's likely that every part of school was a challenge for you, except for art class.

» Writer's Block: So Long, Farewell

It's the last day in office for George Bush. There's been a lot of talk in the media lately about Bush's legacy. What do you think he will be most remembered for?

1. What decade did you attend/are you attending high school or college?

High school was the late 80s/early 90s (yes, I heard you gasp!). College started out in the early 90s and finally finished 6 months ago. :D

2. What clothing fashion from that time are you glad/do you wish went out of style?

BIG HAIR

3. Do you still listen to the music from your high school/college years on a regular basis?

Yes, and I still refer to it as alternative... not sure whether that's a viable label any more, but there you have it.

4. What hairstyle/hair color did/do you wear during high school/college?

Let's see... during my early high school years, I had the "reach towards Heaven" bangs and straightened the rest of my hair. Then, my hair morphed into this nondescript long with bangs look (straightened, of course). I also went from bottle blonde back to my natural brunette.

Right before I got my AA, I grew out the bangs and went bang-less from 1996 to earlier this year. Now I'm back to long with bangs and still straightening because I still haven't figured out how to tame my waves/curls. *sigh*

5. What was/is "the cool thing to do" while in high school/college?

Hell if I know! I used to go see garage punk bands with my ex at these abandoned warehouses in Rohnert Park. That turned into the swing dancing scene with my husband, which I did until I was about 4 or 5 months pregnant.

Nowadays, I mostly stay home and watch The Office.

That stuff is wild. It's turned my boiling water (and my wooden spoon) dark purple. I can't wait to taste the stuffed squash.

I've been cooking since 9 and am almost done. My parents don't get here until sometime after 4 and they are bringing a ton of additional food. Should be yummy!

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Don't ever let anyone tell you that kids will only listen to The Wiggles and Laurie Berkshire.

From the next room over:

This is Halloween! This is Halloween! Halloween, Halloween, Halloween, Halloween, Halloween..."

and

We're only making plans for Nigel... awhoo!!!
